Saturday, December 14, 2013 After nearly six months of classroom and practical training, Firefighter I &II students from JCBVFD, New Kent County, West Point, and King and Queen County were able to put their practice to work under live-fire conditions. The JCBVFD Training Division secured VDFP’s state-of-the-art Live Fire Burn Trailer at the Toano Fire Station Saturday, allowing the recruits to undergo several evolutions including hose advancement, search and rescue, and ventilation. The Mobile Burn Trailer allows the students to encounter all of the same conditions that they would experience in a structure fire, but with many additional safety features built-in. Five squads of recruits were lead over the weekend by instructors from the JCBVFD, JCCFD, City of Williamsburg, and VDFP during the live burns. The recruit class of volunteer firefighters now moves on the state certification testing, and will graduate from the recruit program in February after completing additional training in Hazardous Materials and Emergency Vehicle Operations.
Special thanks to Captain TD Smith and Doreen McAndrews for putting on another successful recruit class
