Friday, December 27, 2013 0925 hours After a busy Thursday night, JCBVFD was alerted to the 300 block of Maxton Lane for a another structure fire Friday morning. While units were enroute, JCBVFD Chief 103 reported a large column of smoke from Richmond Road, and called a working fire. A JCCPD unit arrived first on the scene, and reported a single-family residence with the back of the home being fully involved. JCBVFD Engine 1 arrived, and encountered heavy smoke coming from the rear. Engine 1 personnel deployed a 2 1/2″ handline to the rear of the structure, and began a defensive attack. After initial knockdown, crews made entry to conduct primary searches, but were met with increasing heat conditions, and additional fire spread, which was aided by the balloon-frame construction. York Tanker 3 arrived on the scene, and was able to establish a water supply from a distant hydrant. After being forced out of the residence by increasing heat conditions, search crews were finally able to re-enter after additional knockdown and complete the searches. A single victim was found inside of the residence, who was pronounced deceased on the scene. The fire was declared under control by command at 1108 hours. JCBVFD Chief 103 (Stone) held the command.
